It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved Founder and Chief Executive Norman Armstrong-Kersh MBE. KCOM has passed away. After a short illness Norman died peacefully on 13th September 2020. Norman was a loving family man and leaves behind five children, five grandchildren, one great grandchild and many countless friends. He was a gentle, loving and compassionate man who has left behind a strong and sustainable legacy with the Charity Life for a Life Memorial Forest, which will continue to grow from strength to strength in the safe hands of the Trustees and Staff. It was Norman’s last wish to have a Memorial tree planted in his memory; this will be planned post Covid-19 to allow the opportunity for all those who wish to attend, to celebrate the life of this great gentleman. As Autumn starts to edge closer our community wildflower meadows are starting to have their seasonal cuts. The wildflower meadows and woodlands have seen some fantastic Bee and Butterfly activity; and also provided a safe space for people to distance outdoors. The grounds team have escaped the northern rain to work on the wildflower meadow at the Blagdon Lake memorial forest. Its World Bee Day and as part of our growing partnership the Laudato Si Centre at Wardley we have donated the funds to purchase a Honey Extractor. Covid-19 update: This week saw the Government announce a slight relaxation of the “lockdown”. In light of this some of our partners have started to slowly reopen their sites with, which will include access to memorial forests, which is great news. The site itself was restored by Redstart as part of the land restoration works for the @thebrickworks_bury development. We have no doubt that this will become a popular Memorial Forest which benefits from beautiful views of Holcombe Hill and Peel Tower. Today in partnership with @cityoftreesmcr and @salforddiocese we supported 60 children from 10 local salford school, who volunteered to plant a 20 mixed community fruit orchard and planted some new trees to create a ‘scrubby’ woodland habitat for wildlife.
