The whole country park is built upon land that was previously Frickley and Elmsall coal mining colliery. The colliery was closed in 1993 and since that time the Home and Communities Agency’s National Coalfields Program has transformed the site into a safe and attractive open space that has been enhance even further under the Land Trusts management.
The new memorial tree plantation is split into two woodland coups that sit on either side of the pathways of the north western edge the country park and offer views across the area and the surrounding farmland. As the memorial woodland develops into a forest develop it will add to the country parks landscape.
A consideration from those who wish to plant a memorial tree is there is easy access to the memorial tree planting areas via 7 km of pathways around the county park and ample carparking only a short walking distance away.
As with all Life for a Life memorial forests it is prohibited to leave items on memorial trees. However clients wishing to plant wildflowers may do so with the help and guidance of the land managing partner. Please visit www.thelandtrust.org.uk for more information.
