This planting site at ‘Stocks Reservoir’ opened May 2004 and is situated close to the small historic village of Slaidburn which is approximately 18 miles north of the lovely town of Clitheroe.
Stocks Reservoir is renowned for its breathtaking beauty and for the ever- increasing and varied species of flora and wildlife. The planting site is adjacent to the south side of the reservoir and overlooks the water’s edge which is popular with fishermen from all over the UK. A private road runs off Catlow Road. This strictly private road runs past the Water Treatment Works and up to the wonderfully preserved building referred to as the ‘Boardhouse Residence’. Whilst the Treatment Works and the Boardhouse Residence are strictly out-of- bounds to all visitors, special arrangements have been made for Life for a Life clients to view the Book of Remembrance in a designated area.
The whole area is steeped in military history dating back to the Romans. Catlow Road actually runs parallel to a Roman Road.
The whole area is very popular with fell walkers and hikers as well as landscape artists and photographers.
