United Utilities have generously released a new area within the Country Park for memorial trees where planting started at the end of 2020.

The area is located beyond the treatment works at the top of the County Park and offers beautiful views across the valley that Strinesdale nestles within. Popular with walkers, fishermen and horse riders this tranquil country park is a hidden gem within Oldham's countryside. Abundant in wildlife from swans swimming on the lower lake, Roe Deer and birds that include waxwings as well as more common species, this site is a real home for nature only a few minutes' drive from the hustle and bustle of Oldham town centre.

Taking the wildlife into consideration, the ambitions for this new memorial forest is to manage it more sympathetically. We will aim not to blanket cut the grass but improve the grasslands diversity to include wildflowers such as Yellow Rattle, Oxeye Daisies and Birds Foot Trefoil to make a better habitat for pollinators and butterflies, whilst still maintaining grass around the memorial trees.

Life for a Life planting areas are natural environments where we encourage wildlife and plantlife to flourish, as such additional items should not be added to the tree or the space around it, especially as they can cause damage to the tree. Please be aware that any prohibited items left on or around memorial trees will be removed.
