  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025Deciding what to do to honour a loved one can be difficult — especially when they haven’t made any plans. But finding the right way to remember someone can bring immense peace. For the Thomas family, planting a Life Memorial Tree offered comfort, closure, and a lasting tribute to their mum’s life. This @dyingmatters Week we’re encouraging open conversations about death, grief, and meaningful remembrance. • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025It’s Dying Matters Week – a time to talk openly about death, dying, and grief. When we plant memorial trees, we meet families and individuals at all stages of grief. Some come with heavy hearts, freshly grieving; others arrive years after a loss, seeking a quiet place to reflect and reconnect. Every story is unique, and every tree is a living tribute to a life loved and remembered. Grief doesn’t follow a straight path, and that’s okay. - - To learn more follow: @dyingmatters @hospice_uk Or visit: dyingmatters.org - Marklands Reservoir @unitedutilities #DyingMattersWeek #dyingmattersawarenessweek #GriefJourney #MemorialTrees #LifeForALife #TalkingAboutDeath #LivingLegacies #hospicecare

  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025 This year, we’re proud to take part in @plantlife.loveplants #NoMowMay across our memorial forests. At Life for a Life, our mission has always been about creating living legacies to help nature thrive. No Mow May supports that vision, helping our forests become vibrant habitats for wildlife, and peaceful places of remembrance for families. We’ve already seen the rewards: a dark edged bee fly an active pollinator, recently spotted at our Blagdon Lake Memorial Forest. #LifeForALife #MemorialForests #WildlifeFriendly #NoMowMovement #NatureFirst #PowerToTheFlowers #NoMowMay2025 #FlowerPower #BritishWildflowers #Wildlife #pollinatorsMowMovement #NatureFirst #PowerToTheFlowers #NoMowMay2025 #FlowerPower #BritishWildflowers #Wildlife #pollinators
  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025A massive thank you to the incredible volunteers from CPI in Royton who joined us and the team at @northernrootsoldham to help improve the pathways at Bankfield Clough, located at the southern end of the Northern Roots site. Thanks to their hard work and some trusty tools, these steep and muddy pathways are now much safer for visitors. Life for a Life is proud to create tranquil memorial forests where people can commemorate their loved ones. We’re delighted to be partnering with Northern Roots to transform two meadows into thriving wildflower spaces, with an accompanying Life for a Life Memorial Forest. This forest will feature native tree species such as English oak, silver birch, hornbeam, hazel, and hawthorn. These meadows will offer peaceful, accessible places for remembrance, while also providing valuable habitats for local wildlife. Life for a Life will manage and maintain these areas responsibly to help protect and enhance Northern Roots’ unique biodiversity and ecology. • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025Wildflowers are starting to bloom across our memorial forests, so we’re once again joining @plantlife.loveplants for “No Mow May”! By delaying our grass cutting which traditionally we would have started in April, we’re giving vital wild plants like primroses, cowslips, English bluebells, and wild garlic a chance to thrive — just like the ones we’ve spotted at our @unitedutilities Marklands, Torside, as well as Croft Field. Please excuse the wilder look this spring, as we embrace the weeds, it’s all part of supporting biodiversity and our precious pollinators. #nomowmay #nomowmay2025 #memorialforest #memorialtrees #lifeforalifememorialforest #peakdistrictnationalpark #englishbluebells #wildgarlic #biodiversity #wildflowers #naturephotography #conservation

  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025🌳 This week, Jack took on the challenge of planting not one, but TWO new community orchards at our Lowes Road and Fusiliers Meadow Memorial Forests! He planted a whopping 15 standard-size fruit trees – a lovely mix of apple, cherry, and pear – all set to bring a boost of biodiversity and a treat for our local pollinators. Even better? Thanks to the children’s energy and passion, this space will soon flourish into a vibrant habitat for pollinators and wildlife. • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025On Saturday, we had the privilege of supporting the Ainsworth family as they planted a memorial hawthorn tree at our Indian’s Head forest, overlooking @unitedutilities Dove Stone Reservoir. “We get so much pleasure from visiting the trees and walking around Dovestones. Jonathan’s children visit individually whenever they feel they’d like to and not just on anniversaries or birthdays.” It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025 Signs of Spring at Torside Memorial Forest Earlier this month, our team was busy at Torside Memorial Forest, carrying out essential woodland management to support a healthier and more diverse environment. By coppicing hazel trees and improving light and airflow, we’re not only helping the woodland thrive but also enhancing the space for visitors to enjoy. As we worked, we were greeted by the first signs of spring—delicate snowdrops emerging across the woodland floor, a beautiful reminder of nature’s renewal and how creating light enables ground flora to flourish. - Here are some Instagram hashtags to complement your post: #MemorialForest #WoodlandConservation #SignsOfSpring #NatureRenewal #Snowdrops #WildlifeHabitat #Coppicing #ForestManagement #SpringAwakening #SustainableForestry #GreenSpaces #ProtectNature #WoodlandWalks #OutdoorUK #grief #grieving
  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025 Winter Woodland Work at Chew Valley Lake Memorial Forest 🌳 This winter, we’ve been removing dead and damaged ash trees with our partners at @bristol_water , helping to restore and strengthen the woodland. While some trees have been removed, we will be planting new memorial trees to replace them which will enhance the woodland’s biodiversity and resilience. These efforts not only allow more families to create lasting tributes to loved ones but also help preserve and enhance this special place for generations to come. Stay tuned! –In March, local school children will help sow wildflower seeds and plant bulbs, bringing fresh life to the woodland floor. - - - #MemorialForest #WoodlandCare #NatureAndRemembrance #ChewValleyLake #Bristol #WoodlandMaintenance #WoodlandResilience
  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025You may have noticed that we’ve delayed cutting some of the wildflower meadows and hedges we manage. This a deliberate choice to support local wildlife in and around our memorial forests. By waiting a little longer, we: Provide Shelter – Small mammals like voles and field mice find refuge from predators and harsh weather. Feed Birds – Goldfinches and linnets rely on wildflower seed heads for essential winter food. 🦋 Support Insects – Delayed cutting allows pollinators like butterflies and caterpillars to complete their life cycles. Boost Biodiversity – Letting plants seed naturally creates a richer habitat for wildlife. Here are some pictures from the recent cutting at the Knapweed Tringle near the Crook O’Lune Memorial Forest and the Croft Field, Croston. Sustainable land management like this keeps our meadows thriving all year round. 🌍 #WildlifeConservation #MeadowManagement #Biodiversity #HelpingNature #Knapweed #wildflowers #memorialforest

  • Instagram Post 07:27 Friday 9th May 2025🌳 A Heartfelt Tribute at Croft Field in Croston 🌳 We are touched to share this thoughtful feedback from a family who recently planted a memorial tree with us at Croft Field in Croston. “Harry and Jack were lovely. They made the planting memorable with their humour and involving us in the process. My Dad, Jeff, a lifelong gardener, even received a compliment from Harry on his technique!” “This had been on our to-do list for so long. It had become a source of stress, especially for Jeff, who shared a long and happy marriage with Jean. We couldn’t find the right way to honour her life. The tree planting organised by Life for a Life has been just right, and I know Jeff feels a sense of comfort and closure as a result.” We’re grateful to have been part of so many meaningful moments like this over the past 25 years. It’s a privilege to help families plant a lasting tribute in beautiful locations such as the Croft Field Memorial Forest. – It is something we will never take for granted.
